The invention provides a lightweight thermal insulation wall material and a preparation method thereof. The lightweight thermal insulation wall material is prepared from the following materials in parts by weight by mixing, forming and maintaining: 50-90 parts of calcium silicate slag, 10-50 parts of active calcium silicate, 5-20 parts of silicate cement, 2-5 parts of desulfurization gypsum and 50-100 parts of water. The lightweight thermal insulation wall material provided by the invention takes the calcium silicate slag and active calcium silicate which are formed after aluminum oxide is extracted from high-aluminum fly ash, coal gangues and the like as raw materials, and is low in cost and wide in raw material source, and the lightweight thermal insulation wall material prepared from the raw materials is high in compression strength, small in volume density, low in thermal conductivity, good in comprehensive performance, capable of well meeting actual application requirements of building materials, and convenient to popularize and apply.
