The invention relates to a preparation method for single phase chromium-containing magnesia-alumina spinel powder, and belongs to refractory material preparation technique and solid waste recycling field. The method includes taking 325 mesh chromium-aluminum dreg fine powder and magnesia as raw material, mixing the raw material evenly and proportionally in a ball mill, carrying out calcination in air under a high temperature about 1400 DEG C~1600 DEG C, and cooling in a furnace to room temperature, finally getting the single phase chromium-containing magnesia-alumina spinel powder. The advantages are as follows: the powder has a low raw material cost, simple preparation process and strong corrosion resistance, and the acquired product could be used directly for preparing furnace lining refractory material in various industrial furnaces.
