A cartridge type guardrail comprises a transverse handrail and vertical end columns, wherein the vertical end columns are provided with inner cavities extending in the axial direction; the transverse handrail comprises horizontal rod bodies; the vertical end columns comprise main column bodies and cover bodies; the cross section of each column body takes the shape of a cavity; the cross sectional area of each column body is larger than that of each corresponding cover body; the main column bodies and the cover bodies are buckled to form the inner cavities; positioning holes matched with the end parts of the horizontal rod bodies are formed in side walls of the main column bodies; the end parts of the horizontal rod bodies pass through the positioning holes to be horizontally inserted into the main column bodies; rod body holes are formed in wall bodies at the end parts of the horizontal rod bodies; transition holes matched with the rod body holes are formed in side walls of the main column bodies; cushion blocks are arranged between the end parts of the horizontal rod bodies and the side walls of the vertical end columns and positioned in clearance spaces in the axis direction of the rod body holes; cushion block holes are formed in the cushion blocks; bolts pass through the transition holes, the rod body holes and the cushion block holes to lock the end parts of the horizontal rod bodies onto the main column bodies.
