Sintered sialon object and cutting insert
The present invention addresses the problem of providing a sintered Sialon object and a cutting insert which have chipping resistance, VB wear resistance, and boundary wear resistance. The sintered Sialon object and the cutting insert comprise Beta-Sialon (Si6-zAlzOzN8-z) and at least one polytype Sialon selected from 12H-Sialon, 15R-Sialon, and 21R-Sialon, wherein the value of Z is 0.4-1.0, the proportion of the sum of the peak intensities for the polytype Sialons to the sum of the peak intensities for all Sialons, as determined by X-ray diffractometry, is 10-50%, and at least one rare-earth element (B) selected from between La and Ce and at least one rare-earth element (C) selected from among Y, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Er, Yb, and Lu are contained, the molar ratio of the rare-earth element (B) to the rare-earth element (C) being 1.0:0.06 to 1.0:3.5 in terms of oxide amount and the content of the rare-earth element (B) and rare-earth element (C) being 0.8-4.0 mol% in terms of oxide amount.
