The invention discloses a water repellent, a preparation method therefor and an exterior wall thermal-insulation material. The water repellent comprises the following components in parts by weight: 55-65 parts of polysiloxane, 0-5 parts of alkyl triethoxysilane, 0-5 parts of a C12-13 iso-tridecanol polyoxyethylene emulsifier, 0.1 part of a mildew preventive, 0.5 part of a defoaming agent and 24.4-44.4 parts of deionized water. The invention provides an organic water repellent with high cost performance, which is suitable for thermal-insulation rock wool, mineral wool and perlite; the GB/T25975-2010 requirements are completely met by adding the water repellent which accounts for 0.1-0.5% of the dry weight of the treated materials; and the long-term hydrophobic property is met.
