The invention discloses a cabinet door safety interlock device for a frequency converter cabinet. The device comprises a cabinet door lock, a state monitor used for detecting whether a frequency converter is electrified, and a locking device. The invention further discloses a cabinet door safety interlock method for the frequency converter cabinet. The method comprises the steps of electrification judgment, wherein whether the frequency converter is electrified is judged; locking, wherein a cabinet door is locked and can not be open if the frequency converter is electrified. By the adoption of the device, the cabinet door of the frequency converter can be locked when the frequency converter is electrified, an alarm can be given to far-end operation personnel when the cabinet door of the frequency converter is open, and then the safety performance of the frequency converter cabinet is improved greatly.
