The invention relates to a preparation method of a thermal-insulation building material. According to weight percentage, 30-50% of river sand, 20-35% of cement, 10-15% of rubber particles, 3-6% of DM200 redispersion emulsion powder, 0.3-0.9% of methyl cellulose, 0.2-0.6% of modified silane thickening agents and 6-12% of C are taken, firstly, the river sand, the cement, the rubber particles, the DM200 redispersion emulsion powder, the methyl cellulose and the modified silane thickening agents are mixed and evenly stirred, then, the C is added, and plastering mortar used for thermal insulation of external walls can be obtained after even mixing. The prepared mortar can be used for building walls, temperature can be automatically adjusted according to temperature changes, energy storing performance is good, thermal performance is good, physical and chemical properties are stable, and the energy saving effect is remarkable.
