A hydraulically activated shear (18) is provided. The shear (18) includes: a first jaw (26); a second jaw (78) configured to slide past the first jaw (26) in a shearing motion; and a first cutting plate (40) attached to at least one side of the first (26) and second jaws (28), the first cutting plate (40) defining a shear edge (76) and a shear surface (78), the shear surface having a positive camber with respect to a plane perpendicular to the jaws, wherein at least one of the first (26) and second jaws (28) is actuated by a hydraulic cylinder (30).
