The invention discloses masonry mortar special for aerated building blocks. The masonry mortar is prepared from, by mass, 25% of cement, 5% of coal ash, 44.3-54.3% of yellow sand, 15.0-25.0% of tailings and 0.7% of admixture, wherein the admixture is composed of a modifying agent and a thickening agent, and the modifying agent is one or a mixture of cellulose ether, an entraining agent and a water reducing agent. According to the masonry mortar, a large amount of coal ash is effectively utilized, so that the problem of environment pollution is solved, and the manufacturing cost is reduced; in addition, environment-friendly pollution-free composition proportions are achieved, the using amount of natural yellow sand is reduced, and meanwhile the bonding performance of the masonry mortar special for the aerated building blocks is improved through one or the mixture of the cellulose ether, the entraining agent and the water reducing agent.
