An auxiliary handle attachment is connected to a handle shaft of a scoop by a foldable "flip" type clamp, an intermediate rod member is connected to the clamp, and a grip is screwed into the intermediate rod member to complete the assembly. A spherical knob is arranged at the bottom of the intermediate rod member and is completely surrounded by a semispherical "cup" in each flip type half clamp. When the flip type half shells are brought together, a simple and robust bearing socket around the ball is formed, and a ball-socket joint is included. Advantageously, the semi-open clamps are bolted together to ensure a firm connection. The design adapts to "back-and-forth" movement of a vertical shaft in the soil shoveling process.
