The invention provides a remote control system and method for operation of engineering machinery. The remote control system comprises a server, a T-BOX and a controller, wherein the server is used foracquiring and processing an external instruction and sending the external instruction to the T-BOX through a remote instruction; the T-BOX is used for acquiring the remote instruction and sending a control signal to the controller according to the remote instruction; the controller is used for controlling a hydraulic system and an engine according to the control signal; the hydraulic system is used for adjusting the output power of a main pump of the hydraulic system according to the control signal; and the engine is used for adjusting the rotating speed of the engine according to the controlsignal. The working states of the hydraulic system and the engine are controlled respectively, the engineering machinery is locked in a multi-stage limiting mode, the limiting state is displayed according to feedback information of the engineering machinery, an operator is informed of the limiting state in time, and preparation is made for safe shutdown.
