The invention discloses novel thin-layer plastering mortar and a preparation method thereof. The novel thin-layer plastering mortar comprises active magnesium oxide, nickel slag, sulfur-fixing ash, amagnesium sulfate solution, a binder and a reaction promoter, the preparation method comprises the following steps: mixing the active magnesium oxide, the nickel slag, the sulfur-fixing ash and the magnesium sulfate solution in parts by weight, stirring at a low speed, standing, adding the binder, stirring at a high speed, standing, and continuously stirring at a high speed. The mortar is excellent in masonry performance, good in fireproof durability and good in cohesiveness, magnesium oxide in the nickel slag powder can react with magnesium sulfate in the later period under the action of thereaction accelerant to generate a magnesium oxysulfate hydration product, and the later-period strength of the mortar is further improved; meanwhile, a large amount of industrial waste residues are used, so that the production cost of the product is greatly reduced, and a new way is opened up for resource utilization of the nickel residues; in addition, the preparation method is simple and convenient and high in operability.
