The invention discloses a method for building an artificial island. The artificial island comprises a first area away from an existing pier, a second area parallel to an area formed by the existing pier and comprising the existing pier, and a third area. The method for building the artificial island comprises the following steps that firstly, enclosure construction of the existing pier is carriedout, wherein on the periphery of the existing pier of the second area, a plurality of enclosure piles are arranged in a striking manner through a pile sinking technology, and an enclosure structure ofthe existing pier is formed; secondly, island wall construction is carried out, wherein a foundation is reinforced below an island wall structure close to the existing pier, and then zoning construction is carried out in the first area, the second area and the third area; thirdly, land area backfilling is carried out, wherein the hydraulic reclamation technology is adopted, a draining and floating grid method is utilized for carrying out hydraulic reclamation, and during hydraulic reclamation, construction is carried out according to the sequence of the first area, then the second area and final the third area, so that an island body is formed; and fourthly, the island body is compacted, wherein the preloading technology and the resonance and compacting technology are adopted for carryingout vibrating impact and compacting on the first area, the second area and the third area.
