The invention belongs to the technical field of preparation of refractory materials, and provides a molten refractory material for steel smelting and a preparation method thereof. The invention provides a molten refractory material for iron and steel smelting. The molten refractory material comprises the following raw materials in parts by weight: 60-90 parts of magnesium oxide, 3-30 parts of aluminum oxide, 1-30 parts of zirconium oxide, 0.2-2 parts of calcium oxide and 0.2-2 parts of silicon oxide. The molten refractory material provided by the invention can meet increasingly harsh steel development requirements; the service life of a refractory product prepared from the molten refractory material is more than ten times of that of an existing magnesia carbon brick product, and due to thefact that the service life is prolonged, the molten refractory material consumed for producing each ton of steel is reduced by 80%-90% compared with a traditional material, and the refractory material is saved; and the purity of the steel can reach more than 90%.
