The rotation drive system is provided with an electric motor (20), a speed reducer (60), and a lubricating oil circulation section (150). The electric motor (20) has an electric motor casing (21) which forms a first containing space (R1) and which has formed therein a communication hole (50) extending downward. The speed reducer (60) has a speed reducer casing (61) which forms a second containingspace (R2) connecting to the first containing space (R1) through the communication hole (50). The lubricating oil circulation section (150) has a lubricating oil flow passage (151) and a lubricating oil pump (152). The lubricating oil flow passage (151) externally connects the first containing space (R1) and the second containing space (R2). The lubricating oil pump (152) forces lubricating oil from the second containing space (R2) side to the first containing space (R1) side.
