The invention discloses thermal insulation gypsum self-leveling mortar and a preparation method thereof. The thermal insulation gypsum self-leveling mortar comprises a main material, an additive and aporous thermal insulation material. The main material comprises high-strength gypsum, sand, coarse whiting and rubber powder, and the additive comprises a water reducing agent, a water retaining agent, a retarder and a defoaming agent. The preparation method comprises the following step: uniformly mixing the main material, the additive and the porous thermal insulation material to obtain the thermal insulation gypsum self-leveling mortar. The thermal insulation gypsum self-leveling mortar has good fluidity and thermal insulation property, can replace a composite thermal insulation layer, a pea gravel concrete layer and a leveling layer, and simplifies the installation process and cost of an existing floor heating system.
