According to the method and device, the problem of waste of visual processing computing resources caused by an over-wide monitoring range around construction machinery arm support type equipment in theprior art is solved. The method comprises the steps that state parameters of an arm support of the construction machinery arm support type equipment are obtained; the range of a dangerous area underthe arm support is determined according to a preset monitoring area and the state parameters of the arm support; according to a target recognition algorithm, whether a target object exists in the range of the dangerous area is recognized; and when the existing of the target object is recognized in the range of the dangerous area, a warning message is issued. The embodiment of the invention is suitable for safety early warning of the operation of the construction machinery arm support type equipment.
