The invention discloses a highway deceleration prompting device and prompting method. The highway deceleration prompting device comprises a prompter and a detector which are arranged on the inner sideof an edge isolation belt of a highway. The prompter is used for sending a prompt to passing vehicles; the detector is used for detecting the passing condition of the vehicle; the deceleration prompting device further comprises a central processing unit, a wireless communicator and a power supply device. The wireless communicator is used for being in signal connection with a deceleration prompting device adjacent to the deceleration prompting device; the central processing unit is in signal connection with the prompter, the detector and the wireless communicator respectively, and the power supply device is electrically connected with the central processing unit, the prompter, the detector and the wireless communicator respectively. According to the invention, the driving condition of thevehicle is detected according to the detector arranged on the isolation belt at the edge of the expressway, and passing vehicles are prompted in a set range through the prompter, so that traffic accidents caused by too high speed when the vehicles pass through an accident site are prevented.
