The invention discloses a red mud storage yard fill dam protection method and structure. The method comprises the steps that a layer of HDPE geomembrane is laid on the outer slope surface of a fill dam after the filling of a red mud storage yard fill dam is completed, concrete grids are arranged on the HDPE geomembrane, the concrete grids is filled with soil and stone materials and planting grass,drainage ditches are formed in the dam foot and the dam top of the fill dam, the lower portion of the HDPE geomembrane is connected to the bottoms of the drainage ditches, the upper portion of the HDPE geomembrane is laid below a dam top structural layer to the bottoms of the drainage ditches in the dam top, and the drainage ditches are provided with drainage gradients to drain rainwater on the slope surface of the fill dam out of the dam. According to the method, the protection problem of the outer slope surface and the dam top of the fill dam is thoroughly solved, the outer slope surface and the top of the dam body can be prevented from being washed by rainwater, the rainwater is prevented from being polluted, the effect of protecting the environment is achieved, and good application significance is achieved.
