The invention relates to the technical field of seismic reduction and isolation equipment, in particular to an axial variable stiffness friction damper. The damper comprises a plurality of pressing plates and a plurality of friction steel plates, wherein each friction steel plate is clamped between two corresponding pressing plates; strip-shaped friction materials capable of generating friction force are arranged on the contact faces between the friction steel plates and the pressing plates, and variable cross-section structures capable of enabling friction loads to be increased along with increase of displacement are arranged on the friction steel plates and the friction materials; and the variable cross-section structures comprise first variable cross-sections arranged in the middles ofplate bodies of the friction steel plates and second variable cross-sections arranged on the friction materials, and the cross-section angle theta of each variable cross-section can be changed. Aimingat the defects in the prior art, the invention provides the axial variable stiffness friction damper with reliable performance, and the friction force can be increased along with the displacement change, so that the energy consumption capacity is improved, and the seismic reduction efficiency is better.
