The invention provides a latch assembly for a locking mechanism. The latch assembly comprises a latch piece, a safety tongue, a fixing block, a first spring and a second spring. The latch piece is disposed opposite the safety tongue. The relative direction of the tongue piece and the safety tongue is the first direction. The bottom of the latch piece abuts against the first spring. A driving partof the latch piece protrudes into a receiving region of the fixing block in the first direction. The safety tongue passes through the second spring. One end of the second spring abuts against a firstpositioning plate of the safety tongue. The other end of the second spring abuts against the fixing block. A second positioning plate of the safety tongue is arranged on the outer side of the receiving region. The second positioning plate abuts against a limiting post of a cover body of the locking mechanism. When a door is closed, the safety tongue touches a buckle plate of a door lock and is retracted, the tongue piece is automatically extended, and a user does not need to hold the hand by hand and rotate the handle, so that using convenience is brought.
