The invention discloses a lifting type ground fire hydrant and a control method thereof. The lifting type ground fire hydrant comprises a fire hydrant body communicating with a water inlet connector and a water outlet connector and further comprises a foundation pit formed in earth surface soil, and a hydraulic mechanism is arranged at the bottom of the foundation pit; the hydraulic mechanism is in driving connection with the fire hydrant body, a cover plate is fixedly arranged at the top of the foundation pit, a through hole is formed in the cover plate, a diameter expanding part is formed inthe upper end of the through hole, the upper end of the fire hydrant body extends into the through hole and is fixedly connected with a protection plate, and the protection plate is located in the diameter expanding part; and a water conveying pipe is arranged on the side portion of the foundation pit in a penetrating mode, and the water conveying pipe communicates with the water inlet connectorthrough a hose. According to the lifting type ground fire hydrant and the control method thereof, smooth road passing can be guaranteed when the lifting type ground fire hydrant is not used.
