The invention belongs to the technical field of decorative materials, and particularly relates to a dry powder composition for preparing a water-absorbing decorative material. The dry powder composition for preparing the water-absorbing decorative material is prepared from the following components in parts by weight: 50-100 parts of a filling material, 1-10 parts of paper pulp fibers, 1-8 parts ofhydroxypropyl cellulose, 0.5-2 part of ethyl cellulose and 10-20 parts of a porous material, wherein the filling material is a mixture of wollastonite, high-strength gypsum powder, ash calcium powderand quartz powder or a mixture of heavy calcium powder, high-strength gypsum powder and white cement; and the porous material is diatomite or porous quartz powder. The decorative material prepared from the dry powder composition is good in water absorption performance and decorative performance and wide in application.
