The invention discloses a highway pavement crack detection system based on a four-axis unmanned aerial vehicle and a detection method thereof, and relates to the technical field of highway detection, the system comprises a four-axis unmanned aerial vehicle, a data transmission subsystem, a ground control subsystem and an image processing subsystem, the ground control subsystem is used to complete the planning of an inspection path, the flight height and speed are set, information is sent to the four-axis unmanned aerial vehicle through the data transmission subsystem, the four-axis unmanned aerial vehicle flies according to a planned path, an original image is collected through the camera, a road is segmented and locked through OpenCV in the image processing unit so that the four-axis unmanned aerial vehicle can fly autonomously along the image processing unit, cracks are automatically detected through the neural network, and the crack positions are calibrated through the GPS module. The highway pavement crack detection system is low in technical use threshold and high in automation degree, and compared with a traditional manual detection and road detection vehicle scheme, the highway pavement crack detection method can remarkably improve the highway pavement crack detection efficiency, save time and reduce the manpower and material resource cost.
