The invention discloses a hydraulic engineering floating garbage catching device and an operation method. The hydraulic engineering floating garbage catching device comprises a box body, an opening is formed in the front end of the box body, and the opening is used for allowing floating objects to enter; vertical pipes are arranged on the left side face and the right side face in the box body, and the vertical pipes are steel pipes and play a role in vertical guiding; a frame capable of sliding up and down is arranged between the vertical pipes on the two sides, a feeding nozzle is arranged at the front end of the frame, the width of the feeding nozzle is gradually reduced backwards, a frame plate is installed on the rear portion of the frame, and a mesh bag is arranged between the frame plate and the frame in a clamped mode; reinforcing plates are welded to the left side face and the right side face of the frame. According to the hydraulic engineering floating garbage catching device, the floating objects can be effectively caught in the mode that the frame is matched with the mesh bag, and the floating objects comprise garbage, leaves, duckweed and the like; the catching efficiency is high, during manual cleaning, the frame can be directly moved upwards, and the frame is supported in a rolling mode through pulleys, therefore, the lifting resistance can be reduced.
