The invention discloses a novel bidirectional hydraulic ship lift which comprises a steel wire rope, ship reception chambers, a water tank and a ship lift cabin. A water tank is arranged below the ship lift cabin, pulleys are installed on the lower surface of the ship lift cabin and the upper surface of the water tank, and the steel wire rope bypasses the pulleys and is connected with the two ship reception chambers. During working, a downstream ship and an upstream ship enter the two ship reception chambers respectively, the weight of the two ship reception chambers is adjusted by filling water and draining water, and the ship reception chambers move up and down. According to the ship lift, the problem that a steel wire rope is broken and twisted off due to the fact that a traditional ship lift is difficult to balance is solved, working stress on a synchronizing shaft and a steel wire is reduced, potential safety hazards are reduced, the ship lifting efficiency is improved, and energy conservation and environment protection are achieved.
