The invention relates to the technical field of production of mirabilite building gypsum, in particular to light plastering gypsum prepared from mirabilite gypsum and a preparation method thereof. The light plastering gypsum is prepared from, by weight, 100 parts of mirabilite building gypsum powder, 3-10 parts of Portland cement, 0.3-0.7 part of a water reducing agent, 12-15 parts of glass beads, 0.15-0.3 part of a retarder and 0.3-0.6 part of rubber powder; and the preparation method comprises the following steps: weighing the mirabilite building gypsum, the Portland cement, the water reducing agent, the glass beads, the retarder and the rubber powder in parts by weight, and uniformly stirring and mixing. The lightweight plastering gypsum has the advantages of high breaking strength, high compressive strength, high tensile bonding strength and high water retention rate, realizes reasonable utilization of the mirabilite gypsum resource, and avoids waste of the mirabilite gypsum.
