The invention relates to a method for taking sand from a tailing pond, and belongs to the technical field of tailing pond recovery. The method comprises the steps that the lower portion of a mountain body of the valley type tailing pond is drilled to install a pipeline, and sand taking operation is conducted from the bottom of the tailing pond by means of the downward slope of the pipeline. Compared with an existing tailing pond recovery technology, the method is more environmentally friendly, no mechanical equipment is needed in the whole recovery process, raised dust generated in the links of shoveling, loading, transporting and the like is avoided, and the environmental protection risk is eradicated. Compared with a traditional recovery method, the method is small in investment and low in cost, tailings flow to a processing workshop automatically by means of the gravity flow slope, and the whole process is more efficient.
