The invention provides a gypsum-based mortar and a preparation method thereof. The gypsum-based dry-mixed mortar material comprises low-quality gypsum clinker, coal ash slag, zeolite and quick lime. According to the gypsum-based dry-mixed mortar material provided by the invention, the problem that a product is easy to collapse in a printing process when the product with a relatively high height (more than 2cm) is printed by using a printing material such as a concrete material or clay in a current 3D printing technology is effectively solved; and the gypsum-based mortar provided by the invention is beneficial to improving the durability and construction performance of the gypsum-based mortar.
