The invention relates to a multi-position ladder, a method of using and a method of making the multi-position ladder, a hinge and an actuator. The ladder has a front section having a first front rail and a second front rail and a crosspiece attached to and between the first front rail and the second front rail. The ladder has a rear section having a first rear rail and a second rear rail and a crosspiece attached to and between the first rear rail and the second rear rail. The rear section has a telescoping section attached to the first rear rail and the second rear rail. The ladder has a first hinge. The ladder has a second hinge. Each hinge has a locked state and an unlocked state. The ladder has an actuator attached directly to the front section and away from and separate from the first hinge and the second hinge.
