The invention relates to a composition for preparing a retarder and the retarder prepared from the composition. The composition for preparing the retarder provided by the invention comprises water, a stabilizer, itaconic acid, acrylic acid, 2-acrylamide-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid, a silane coupling agent, an alkaline substance and an initiator. The retarder provided by the invention has good temperature resistance, and can meet the requirement of 60-130 DEG C; in addition, the linear relation of the addition amount of the retarder is good, the strength of set cement is not influenced, and the retarder has good compatibility with other admixtures of oil well cement.
