According to the pyrolytic carbon modified short carbon fiber reinforced ZrB2-ZrC-SiC composite material provided by the invention, ZrB2-ZrC-SiC is taken as a matrix, and pyrolytic carbon modified short carbon fibers are taken as a reinforcing phase; the range of the volume ratio of the matrix to the reinforcing phase is 2.3-9; the diameter range of the pyrolytic carbon modified short carbon fiber is 6-10 [mu] m, the length range is 1-3 mm, the pyrolytic carbon modified short carbon fiber is obtained by carrying out chemical vapor infiltration treatment on carbon fiber, and the process conditions of the chemical vapor infiltration treatment are that the temperature is 800-1200 DEG C, and the system pressure is 0.5-1 kPa; n2 or H2 is used as carrier gas, and the flow of the carrier gas is 400-600 ml/min; propane is used as a carbon source, the flow of the carbon source is 400-600 ml/min, and deposition is carried out for 40-60 h. The preparation method of the composite material comprises the steps of powder wet ball milling, mixed ball milling with fibers, preliminary forming, isostatic pressing and pressureless sintering.
