The invention discloses a thermoelectric ceramic material and a preparation method thereof, and the method comprises the steps: (1) mixing Se powder, Bi powder, Bi2O3 powder, Ln2O3 powder and Cu powder, and tabletting to obtain a precursor; (2) heating the precursor so that the precursor is subjected to a self-propagating reaction to obtain a block after the reaction; and (3) crushing and grinding the block after the reaction, and then carrying out spark plasma sintering, so as to obtain the Bi2LnO4Cu2Se2 thermoelectric ceramic material. The method disclosed by the invention is simple in process, low in cost, short in preparation flow and suitable for batch production, and the total consumed time is within 2 hours, so that engineering application is realized. In addition, the complex oxygen-containing layered compound Bi2LnO4Cu2Se2 thermoelectric ceramic material with low thermal conductivity, high conductivity and better thermoelectric performance can be prepared by adopting the method, and has potential application value in the fields of waste heat power generation, electric heating refrigeration and the like.
