The invention relates to the technical field of hard and brittle material processing, in particular to a material for enhancing the surface toughness of a hard and brittle material and a preparation method thereof. The method comprises the following steps: (1) adding calcium stearate micro powder and nano graphite oxide powder into an ethanol water solution, and carrying out ultrasonic dispersion to obtain a suspension; and (2) the suspension liquid obtained in the step (1) is brushed to the surface of a to-be-machined hard and brittle material workpiece, and a self-repairing layer is formed on the surface of the workpiece after the ethanol water solution in the suspension liquid volatilizes. And (3) spraying an acrylate solution on the surface of the workpiece in the step (2), and then heating and curing the workpiece to form an acrylate film layer on the surface of the workpiece. The suspension prepared from the calcium stearate micro powder and the nano graphite oxide powder is used for preparing a self-repairing layer on the surface of the hard and brittle material workpiece, and the self-repairing layer can automatically repair the problem of micro cracks generated by grinding when the surface of the hard and brittle material workpiece is ground, so that the problem of breakage is reduced.
