The invention relates to the technical field of coke oven construction, in particular to a preparation method of a light high-strength mullite heat-insulating brick for a heat recovery coke oven, which is characterized in that mullite is doped with aluminum oxide to increase rigidity and an expanding agent to reduce density, so that the heat-insulating brick is lower in density, higher in strength and lower in heat conductivity coefficient; comprising the following steps: S1, uniformly mixing sedimentation tank mud, large-particle aluminum oxide, small-particle aluminum oxide, an expanding agent, mullite and water in a sand mixer according to a corresponding ratio; s2, continuing to add a proper amount of water and sawdust into the mixer, and uniformly mixing in the sand mixer to obtain a mixture; s3, performing extrusion molding on the mixture to obtain a heat insulation brick blank; s4, the blank is baked for a period of time under the condition of 300-600 DEG C, and then is baked for 3-6 hours under the condition of 1500 DEG C; and S5, storing the heat insulation brick blank for 8 hours under proper humidity and temperature conditions.
