The invention discloses a roof tent based on a luggage rack. The roof tent comprises a luggage rack main body, a vehicle-mounted ladder, a folding table and chair, a luggage bag, tent supporting rods, side tent supporting rods, a tent main body, a storage structure and a structure rope, a sliding mechanism is arranged on the lower portion of the luggage rack body and used for pulling out or storing the vehicle-mounted ladder from the luggage rack body. Folding tables and chairs are stored in the storage structure arranged below the luggage rack main body; storage locking structures are arranged at the tail ends of the vehicle-mounted ladder and the folding table and chair; a luggage bag is connected to the upper portion of the luggage rack body, and the tent body is stored in the luggage bag. The side part of the luggage rack main body is provided with accommodating holes for accommodating the side tent supporting rods and the ground nails; the luggage rack body is provided with a locking mechanism which is connected with the tent supporting rod and fixed through a structural rope. The luggage rack main body can be switched between carrying and sleeping, and the tent main body, the luggage rack main body and the telescopic supporting legs can be matched with one another to be assembled into a bed and a table used in a living room and an off-ground tent used in the field, so that the practicability of the roof luggage rack is improved.
