The invention discloses a planting base material for vegetation recovery of a slag yard, which comprises the following components in parts by weight: 78-85 parts of planting soil, 2-8 parts of humus, 30-48 parts of compound fertilizer, a water-retaining agent, an adhesive and 30-48 parts of compound fertilizer, wherein the planting soil is prepared from peat soil and cement clinker, and the weight part of the peat soil is 120 to 150 parts, and the weight part of the cement clinker is 80 to 100 parts; the humus is decomposed crop straw; the adhesive is a natural adhesive formed by compounding, mixing and modifying plant seeds serving as rubber powder, and the planting soil further comprises charcoal residues and vermiculite particles. Through the arrangement of corresponding mechanisms, vegetation recovery of the exposed slope of the slag yard can be achieved, the base material can be prevented from being affected by heavy rainfall, the installation stability between the base material and the exposed slope is guaranteed, slope instability conditions such as landslide and collapse are avoided, and meanwhile the recovery difficulty of the exposed slope can be lowered.
