The invention relates to a large-section steel box girder and a construction method thereof. According to the scheme, the construction method comprises the following construction steps that firstly, construction preparation is conducted; secondly, the steel box girder segments are transported; step 3, pre-assembling the steel box girder; step 4, mounting the steel box girder; 5, welding the steel box girder; and 6, coating the steel box girder until the construction is completed. The construction method has the advantages of being high in construction efficiency, low in hoisting difficulty and capable of preventing deformation of the steel box girder.
