The invention relates to the field of municipal sludge treatment, in particular to a method for preparing sludge ceramsite from domestic sludge of a sewage plant. The method comprises the following steps: (1) adding kaolin into domestic sludge for coagulation dehydration to obtain a dehydrated domestic sludge and kaolin mixture; (2) uniformly smashing and mixing the mixture obtained in the step (1), kaolin and a binder; (3) granulating the mixture obtained in the step (2) to prepare a ceramsite blank, and then drying; and (4) sintering the dried ceramsite blank obtained in the step (3) to obtain the sludge ceramsite. The process is simple, the kaolin is added before the granulation raw materials are proportioned and participates in the sludge coagulation and dehydration stage, the moisture content of the sludge is reduced by utilizing the dryness and adsorbability of the kaolin, the requirements of granulation components are met, the proportioning and adding amount of the granulation raw materials is reduced, the cost is saved, and the performance of the environment in all aspects is better.
