A frame for insertion into a window frame and configured to hold a window type air conditioning unit is provided, and the frame includes a main frame body having an opening formed therein for receiving the air conditioning unit. The frame includes a pair of adjustable side support frames slidably coupled to the main frame body so as to fill a space between a side portion of the air conditioning unit and a side portion of the window frame. Each of the side support frames includes a tightening device for securing the frame within the window channel of the window frame. The tightening device has a fixed stopper fixedly attached to the side support frame and an adjustable stopper movable in a front-back direction. The tightening device also includes an actuator accessible by a user along the main frame body and configured to move the adjustable stop in a fore-aft direction.
