A gas engine replacement device includes: a housing; a battery receptacle coupled to the housing to receive a battery pack; the motor is positioned in the shell; a power output shaft receiving torque from the motor and protruding from one side of the housing; a power switching network configured to provide power from the battery pack to the motor; and an electronic processor, and an electronic processor coupled to the power switching network and configured to control the power switching network to rotate the motor and receive a commanded speed, determine whether the commanded speed is within an exclusive zone, set an output speed to the commanded speed in response to the commanded speed being outside the exclusive zone, and output the output speed to the motor in response to the commanded speed being within the exclusive zone. The output speed is set to a speed outside the restricted zone in response to the commanded speed being within the restricted zone, and the power switching network is controlled to rotate the motor at the output speed.
