Disclosed herein is a method for stabilizing a volume of soil (e.g., a volume of soil defining a roadbase or subroadbase). The method comprises applying to the soil a coating agent comprising one or more fatty acid salts derived from coconut oil, whereby soil particles in the soil are coated with the coating agent, and then applying to the soil a curing agent comprising a metal salt capable of reacting with the one or more fatty acid salts derived from coconut oil, thereby forming a cured product. The soil is then compacted, thereby consolidating the coated soil particles.
