The invention relates to a method for operating a vehicle lock comprising a locking mechanism, in which the opening of the lock comprises the following steps: transferring a locking element of a locking device from a locking position to a release position by means of an actuator, the locking element locks the actuation of the locking mechanism in the locking position and releases the actuation of the locking mechanism in the release position; manually actuating an actuating element arranged at the lock; and transitioning the actuation element from the inactive state to the active state, in which a latch of the locking mechanism is transitioned from a latched position to a non-latched position by transitioning the actuation element from the inactive state to the active state, in which the latch prevents opening the lock in the latched position and allows opening the lock in the non-latched position, in which the latch prevents opening the lock in the latched position and allows opening the lock in the non-latched position.
