The invention discloses a preparation method of a cordierite honeycomb ceramic carrier with the porosity of 60% or above. The preparation method comprises the following steps: inspecting, screening and preparing raw materials; mixing the materials; kneading mud in a mud kneading machine, roughly smelting and sieving, aging, refining and sieving; extruding and molding to obtain a honeycomb ceramic carrier green body; drying and shaping the honeycomb ceramic carrier green body; cutting and firing the dried carrier to obtain a cordierite honeycomb ceramic carrier; heating at a heating rate of 10-50 DEG C, and firing at 1410 +/-5 DEG C for 12 hours; and laminating, punching, scraping mud, and drying to obtain a finished product. The specific raw material composition is matched with a special preparation process, the porosity and the median pore diameter of the product are effectively improved while the product yield, the isostatic pressing strength, the thermal shock resistance and other properties are ensured, the porosity of the prepared product is 60-70%, the median pore diameter is 15-20 microns, and the use requirement of the gasoline car national sixth emission standard can be met.
