The invention discloses a suspension bridge main cable strand erecting and position restraining method which comprises the following steps that S1, the spatial positions of catwalk bearing cables, gantries and bottom beams in a catwalk system are determined, and the spatial coordinates of the catwalk system are determined; and S2, a limiting stopper is erected, and the limiting stopper is installed on the bottom beam. The catwalk system, the erected early-stage cable strand and the to-be-adjusted cable strand are integrally connected through the limiting stopper to form a whole, the position of the to-be-adjusted cable strand is controlled in the cable strand erecting process, and due to the fact that the rigidity of the catwalk system and the rigidity of the erected early-stage cable strand are larger than the rigidity of the to-be-adjusted cable strand, the cable strand can be adjusted. The transverse position of the cable strand to be adjusted can be effectively limited through the limiting device by using the catwalk system and the overall rigidity of the erected early-stage cable strand, and the relative position of the cable strand to be adjusted and the erected early-stage cable strand can still be measured in the windy weather. The defect that in the prior art, the cable strand erecting efficiency is low due to the fact that the cable strand erecting process is prone to being affected by wind power is overcome.
