The invention discloses a structure for improving the waterproof performance of a retaining wall construction joint and a construction method thereof. The structure comprises a retaining wall primary pouring structure and a retaining wall secondary pouring structure, the upper portion of the retaining wall primary pouring structure is a convex portion, the lower portion of the retaining wall secondary pouring structure is a concave portion, the convex portion and the concave portion are matched with each other, and a vertical water stop plate is arranged between the convex portion and the concave portion. The construction method comprises the following steps of binding primary pouring steel bars of the retaining wall and mounting a water stop plate; mounting a primary pouring template of the retaining wall; checking and accepting before primary pouring of the retaining wall; pouring primary concrete of the retaining wall; secondary concrete pouring of the retaining wall and the structural plate; secondary pouring of the retaining wall and form removal and maintenance of the structural plate. According to the construction method, the common quality problems that a protection layer is insufficient and the construction joint position is prone to leakage in a traditional technology are solved, the self-waterproof effect of the structure construction joint position is enhanced, meanwhile, the construction method is economical and efficient, and the construction quality is guaranteed.
