The embodiment of the invention provides a combined sleeper replacement unit and an operation method. The combined sleeper replacement unit comprises a sleeper conveying vehicle, a plurality of sleeper replacement vehicles and a power vehicle which are connected in sequence. The power vehicle is used for providing unit traction power, a braking air source, a complete machine power supply and a complete machine operation control system; the sleeper conveying vehicle is used for conveying new and old sleepers before and after operation; the sleeper replacing vehicle is used for replacing old sleepers and laying new sleepers, the sleeper conveying trolleys and the folding lifting conveying belts of all the coupled replacing vehicles are aligned with the upper-layer conveying belt and the lower-layer conveying belt correspondingly, and therefore the sleepers can be conveyed on the upper-layer conveying belt and the lower-layer conveying belt of the whole vehicle. The unit can run in a self-traction mode, the operation requirement can be met by combining a plurality of sections of sleeper replacing vehicles, multiple points independently operate, operation is flexible and does not affect one another, the overall efficiency is high after combination, sleeper replacing operation can be completed without damaging old sleepers, track lifting or track lining actions are not needed, and the unit is suitable for the technical field of railway line maintenance.
