The invention relates to a forming method of a ceramic-based composite material and the ceramic-based composite material. The present invention makes it possible to suitably mold a ceramic-based composite material while suppressing the occurrence of molding defects. A method for molding a ceramic matrix composite material in which a molten metal is impregnated and a ceramic matrix composite material is molded, the method comprising the steps of: laminating a plurality of fiber layers; a step for forming a laminate by disposing a matrix layer including fibers extending in the immersion direction of the molten metal between the fiber layers, the fiber layers being layers of reinforcing fibers impregnated with a base material resin; a step in which the formed laminate is carbonized, thereby forming an immersion path in the matrix layer across an in-plane direction orthogonal to the lamination direction of the laminate; and a step for impregnating the laminate in which the impregnation path is formed with the molten metal.
