The invention discloses an anti-theft method and system for engineering machinery. The method comprises the steps that a set safety range sent by a mobile terminal is acquired, the set safety range comprises a shutdown safety range, a first-level alarm safety range and a second-level alarm safety range, and the second-level alarm safety range is larger than the first-level alarm safety range; determining a minimum safety range according to the shutdown safety range and the primary alarm safety range; acquiring position information of the engineering machinery sent by a position movement detection module in real time; judging whether the position information of the engineering machinery exceeds the minimum safety range or not; and when the position information of the engineering machinery exceeds the minimum safety range, a safety prompt is sent to the controller and the mobile terminal. Whether the engineering machinery is in the safe state or not is determined by judging whether the engineering machinery exceeds different safety ranges or not, existing hardware and platforms can be used, the existing platforms and resources can be fully utilized, the cost is low, the control logic is simple, and therefore the safety of the engineering machinery is guaranteed more efficiently.
