The invention discloses a preparation and use method of a refractory castable sol binder for a kiln, magnesium-aluminum-chromium composite sol is prepared from magnesium nitrate, aluminum nitrate, chromic nitrate and citric acid, and the magnesium-aluminum-chromium composite sol is used as the sol binder of the castable. The magnesium-aluminum-chromium composite sol can improve the purity of the castable and reduce impurities; a three-dimensional net-shaped structure is formed in a manner of connecting with the castable through a branched chain, so that strength and volume stability are provided for a castable matrix; the sintered sol generates nano magnesium aluminate spinel, and the high surface energy of nano particles can provide power for atomic diffusion in the sintering process, so that the sintering temperature of the castable can be reduced; as no hydrate is generated in the sol-bonded castable, the medium-temperature strength of the sol-bonded castable is higher than that of a cement-bonded castable, and no burst phenomenon occurs in the sintering process.
